Come and join us for a day of local history at the Local Studies Centre in Oldmeldrum. Whether it's tracing your family tree, researching the history of your house or something more specific, find out how our staff and resources can help. Access our newspapers, browse our photo collections and visit 'the vault' where our precious items are stored. Take a tour of the Local Studies Centre and see our staff's favourite things. There will also be a book-sale of withdrawn Local Studies stock -  cash payment only.

The former U3A group is setting themselves up as our local family history group offering support to those who need help researching their family history. This is to be done on an appointment basis through the library.

They will meet the second Tuesday of the month 10.30 to 12:00

Burnbanks Village, near Portlethen, has been in existence for over two-hundred years. 

From the 1950s onwards, it lay in various stages of dereliction and was finally abandoned in the early 1980s, leaving shattered ruins and roofless shells.

It was resurrected in 1992 and is now a fantastic place to live with a deep community spirit.

Joe McLeod has lived in Burnbanks Village for thirty two years and in 2021 published a book on the history of the village. 

Joe’s talk will feature stories from the village and copies of the book will be available to buy.
