Tying in with a major eight part BBC series, popular presenter and bestselling author Simon King reveals the natural splendour of the Shetland Islands.Tying in with a major eight part BBC series, popular presenter Simon King reveals the natural splendour and unique character of the Shetland Islands. Shetland Diaries reveals the magic and splendour of this unique place, its people and wildlife, through the eyes of Simon King and his family. Big Cat Diary and Springwatch presenter Simon King moves to a remote, wildly beautiful cottage with his wife Marguerite and their baby daughter Savannah. He describes living and working among the Shetland people and spectacular wild animals, and struggling to survive in the occasionally harsh landscape. Simon paraglides with seabirds, and dives through wrecks along the stormy shores. He introduces us to wild characters including a young otter family at terrible risk from autumnal storms, and a seal pup his family adopt. Along with practising hard to be accepted into the local band, and challenging the island's leg wrestling champion to a re-match, he experiences the glory of the Northern Lights, and watches Savannah catch her first mackerel. Shetland is home to some of the most spectacular wildlife in the UK -- discover it through Simon King's diaries.Review: 'Heartwarming and candid' -- Daily Mail on WILD LIFE 'His book is packed with wild encounters' -- Independent on WILD LIFE 'This is a heart-warming, engagingly honest read' -- Scotsman on WILD LIFE 'Fascinating...Simon's passion is infectious, as anyone who's watched his programmes knows, and his enthusiasm pours from every word in his new book' -- Beautiful Britain on WILD LIFE 'Whether in front of the camera explaining the mysteries of the natural world ... or behind it as a skilled operator, King is one of the most engaging of natural history presenters and the prose in his autobiography, Wild Life, is every bit as addictive.' -- Scotsman on WILD LIFE.
