Portlethen Library Bookbug Session with Makaton

Come along and join our session of songs, rhymes and a story for you and your little ones (aged 0-5).

Sessions are for pre-school children with a parent or carer.

This session will be led by a member of our team who has recently attended Bookbug with Makaton training. The session will include elements of Makaton signing, for example the Hello/Goodbye song and 1 rhyme. As staff develop their skills they will be adding more signed songs and rhymes.

PLEASE NOTE that one booking is only required per household (i.e., 1 Adult and children) attending this event.

We will accept walk-ins; however, we are limiting numbers that can attend due to space in which the session or event takes place.

To avoid disappointment, we would recommend booking a space for this activity where possible.

Each year, Dementia Awareness Week (DAW) is held with the aim of raising awareness of dementia and helping improve the lives of people with dementia, their families and carers. Dee from Alzheimer's will be in the library from 3-5pm to talk to you about support in the local area.

Portlethen Library The Fascinating Story Of Burnbanks Village

Burnbanks Village, near Portlethen, has been in existence for over two-hundred years.

From the 1950s onwards, it lay in various stages of dereliction and was finally abandoned in the early 1980s, leaving shattered ruins and roofless shells.

It was resurrected in 1992 and is now a fantastic place to live with a deep community spirit.

Joe McLeod has lived in Burnbanks Village for thirty two years and in 2021 published a book on the history of the village.

Joe’s talk will feature stories from the village and copies of the book will be available to buy.

Bestselling author Victoria Hawthorne aka Vikki Patis, will join us hot on the heels of her second historic novel The Darkest Night to be published in April 2024.

Victoria will discuss her latest work and her career as a writer. As part of Wellbeing Month Victoria who was diagnosed with Perthes disease as a child, and fibromyalgia and coeliac disease as an adult, will talk about raising awareness of living with a chronic illness through her writing, and includes a diverse range of characters in her fiction.
